DMAHA General Rules Summer 2010
1. Length of Game
- Three 20 minute run-time periods
2. Roster
Each team will carry no more than 18 players on its roster including goalie. Each team must have at least 6 players
on the ice at game time, you may play without a goalie. If your team does not have 6 players present on the roster
a forfeit will ensue. If forfeit ensues then you may add players to conduct a scrimmage game.
3. Roster Substitution
- No substitutes are allowed, except in the case of a forfeit, then the team forfeiting may add players for
scrimmage game.
4. Uniforms & Equipment
- Uniorms: All players on a team must have the same jersey (style/color/etc) and each player must have a unique, permanent number. Beginning in the Fall of 2010, each team will be required to have dark and light jerseys.
- Equipment: Any player with equipment deemed unsafe by the on ice official may be asked to leave the playing surface to correct the issue without penalty. If a player refuses the team will be subject to a bench minor and the offending player will be subject to game misconduct.
- Helmets: All players must wear a serviceable Ice Hockey Helmet, and they must have a serviceable chin strap. Chin straps must be secured and helmet worn at all times when on the ice. Chin straps may be undone or adjustment while on the bench, however, helmet must be worn while on the bench. Any player who does not meet these requirements may be asked to leave the ice until the issues is resolved. If a player refuses, a bench minor will ensue and the offending player will be subject to a game misconduct.
5. Rules of Play
- Standard USA Hockey game rules will be applied / enforced with a few modifications.
- No touch Icing will be called if puck hit behind the offense’s red line and crosses goal line.
- Delayed off sides will be called.
- Captains (or alternates) will meet with ref between EVERY period of game to discuss any issues, concerns, etc.
- There will NO be overtimes or shootouts in regular season. Games can end in ties.
- Any other issues, rule questions, procedures will be addresses to Head of Rules and the Association Board with
discussion and resolution, by Association Board and captains.
- No slapshots. No checking. No Fighting.
6. Scoring
- Hat Trick Rule will be in effect. No player can score more than 3 goals in a single game. Any additional goals
will result in an unsportsman like penalty.
7. Penalties
- 3 minute run-time penalties. Time of penalty will begin at next drop of the puck.
- Once a player accumulates 10 total penalties, a conduct review of that player will occur. The Head of rules and
captains will review the type of penalties, severity, etc. The Head of Rules and captains will determine any
action deemed appropriate then present to board for action. Based on review, actions can include game suspensions
up to league expulsion.
8. Disciplinary Action
- There will be no refunds for any games missed due to disciplinary action.
- Any altercations that are not minor penalties will result in an incident report by referee
- All incident reports will be submitted to Head of Rules for review and disciplinary action.
- Any other issues, rule questions, procedures will be addresses to Head of Rules and the Association Board with
discussion and resolution, by Association Board and captains.
- A fighting altercation is defined by a player throwing a punch (with or without glove).
- Any player that chooses to fight will be suspended for (2) games with a incident report and review by Head of
Rules, each player involved and their captains.
- No player suspended will return to the ice without disciplinary hearing and review by disciplinary committee.
- Any player involved in more than two fighting/fisticuffs altercations may not be subject to a disciplinary
hearing but will be suspended for the rest of the current season without refund.
- ZERO TOLERANCE POLICY: Any verbal or physical abuse of any official will not be tolerated. A 3 minute penalty
for unsportsmanlike conduct will be assessed at the referees discretion.
- Any player may be issued a season ending suspension if his/her actions are deemed worthy of such a suspension. A
season ending suspension will be reviewed by Head Rules and submitted to DMAHA board for final disposition.
9. Participation
- Players must be 21 years old or older,
- All players must wear a certified Ice Hockey Helmet, and at least a half shield is recommended.
- The board and captains will review and approve team rosters to ensure fairness and equal levels of experience.
- All players must be registered and be a member of DMAHA to play in this league. A player is considered registered
when all paperwork and payment is collected and documented on DMAHA score sheet. No money will be collected the day
of play. Players must be registered and paid the week before he/she can begin play.
- Captains can request a roster check of the opposing team before any game.
- Non-registered players are not allowed to play at any time including as subs in a forfeited game.
10. Other
No alcohol in locker rooms or on the benches.
